BlueScopeWIN Community Partners

The BlueScopeWIN Community Partners program was established in 2012, bringing together two proud, long-standing Illawarra businesses to create a local community support fund.

Since then, the program has supported over 150 local community groups with well over $1.5 million in funding. Collectively, it’s all about making a real difference to the Illawarra community.

The program has eligibility criteria that enable funding to be directed to groups that deliver real benefit or meet a real community need.

Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal

It's become somewhat of a tradition for many years now that BlueScope gives the first donation to the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal in the Illawarra.

Most recently, our funds have been used to upgrade Karinya Cottage - a refuge for people escaping domestic problems.

Kembla Joggers (or 'KJ's" for short) have a long history in the Illawarra as one of our premier running/athletics clubs. They have established possibly the best cross-country running facilities in the state (country??) out at West Dapto.

Greenacres Disability Services

For over 60 years Greenacres Disability Services has provided training and support for people with a broad range of disabilities, delivering ‘best practice’ services to over a thousand people in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven each week. The BlueScopeWIN Community Partners funding goes towards equipment to support an innovative employment program.

Funding from the BlueScopeWIN Community Partners program helps Lifeline South Coast provide essential training courses for volunteer telephone counsellors as part of the extensive and rigorous program they are required to complete.

Disability Trust Sports Ready Program

The Disability Trust’s BlueScopeWIN Sports Ready Program teaches sports skills to children with a disability in primary and special schools. It aims to help children participate in sport by teaching them sport-specific skills, rules, teamwork and etiquette. Experienced instructors conduct modified games, designed around the specific needs of the students.

Southern Stars

BlueScope and WIN have both been long-term supporters of the annual Southern Stars school spectacular, which brings together over 2,500 public school students to perform on a grand scale at the WIN Entertainment Centre. Behind the scenes Southern Stars also provides opportunities for teachers and students in stage production, event management and performance skills and composition.

Illawarra Folk Festival

The Illawarra Folk Festival was established in 1985 and has been acknowledged by Tourism NSW as a Regional Flagship Event. Each year the festival welcomes more than 600 performers in over 350 events including concerts, dance performances, workshops, sessions, street theatre, and poetry readings.

BlueScope Youth Orchestra

BlueScope has supported the BlueScope Youth Orchestra since 1986, enabling the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music to offer a unique youth orchestra program in regional Australia with specialist tutors, scholarships to assist the development of young musicians and new works written for the orchestra.

Bicycle Safety Park

The BlueScopeWIN Bicycle Safety Park at Lake Illawarra Police Citizens Youth Club offers an outdoor road safety course to educate primary school students in the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands in road rules and bicycle safety.
